Home improvement ideas to keep you busy during lockdown

Like many people across the UK, you might have been placed on furlough or struggling to find things to do to keep you and your family busy during lockdown.

We don’t know how long the lockdown period will last, but what we do know is that it is important we keep ourselves busy at home to stay healthy both mentally and physically.

A rewarding way to keep you and your family busy is to get on with those odd jobs around the house that we’ve been forever putting off.

And to get them done quicker, why not get the whole family involved? Important lessons for children which aren’t typically thought in a classroom can be learnt during these times such as how to paint a wall, how to clean a window or how to cut the grass.

Here are three home improvement ideas Bacon and Company have thought of to help keep you busy during lockdown:

Patch up paintwork or completely repaint a room

Sitting inside four walls inevitably leads to noticing things that you would otherwise overlook, such as scuffs, marks and scratches on your painted walls.

If you still have a pot of the original paint still knocking around, dig out a few paintbrushes and carefully touch up the affected areas.

Or you could be more ambitious and buy some new paint online so that you can repaint an entire room! Some great colours that are on trend right now include Classic Blue, Blush, Hunter Green and of course White.

Mending or upcycling some furniture

We’re often too lazy to fix certain things that are really simple to mend, without the need for outside help.

There has never been a better time to sort those little leaks, secure those door and cabinet knobs and fix that cracked grouting. You will save loads of money doing it yourself and can always find a YouTube video for some assistance if you need it.

Upcycling furniture is a creative, eco friendly way to give a new lease of life to otherwise unwanted furniture. Put your thinking caps on and see if there’s any items you can creatively reuse for decorative and functional purposes.

Convert some old wooden crates into shelving units or use any empty jam jars for displaying lights. The only limit is your imagination!

We have been blessed with some fantastic weather so far during lockdown, if you’re lucky enough to have a garden, why not make the most of it and get it Summer ready!

After the rough winter months, a bit of tidying may be needed first before you can enjoy a few cold ones in the sunshine.

Give the lawn its first cut of the year, cut back your hedges, pull out any weeds and get planting to bring out some colour once the summer arrives.

Turning to nature and growing things can be great for your wellbeing at a trying time like this.

We hope you enjoy these home improvement tips. Please feel free to share your hard work with us on Facebook or Instagram!
