Bringing Home the Bacon..

Straight from Broadwater: real words, real people

I recently sold my house through Bacon & Co and couldn’t be more impressed with the service I received. From start to finish, the process was handled with professionalism and efficiency. I was always kept up to date with viewings and given helpful feedback afterwards. Every member…

Jacqui

I used Jake and the team at Bacon and Co (Broadwater) to manage the sale of our house. Jake was brilliant – it was a particularly tricky chain with issues outside of our control – Jake was able to keep us updated the whole time and in certain points was the main person…

Matthew

Bloody brilliant in a couple of words. He kept us informed even when our solicitors unfortunately did not. I couldn’t recommend Bacon any more especially with the personal touch as nothing was too much. He managed to keep the buyers happy as well as we experienced a few problems…

Five Broadwater Facts

A name with a watery past

Broadwater’s name harks back to an old inlet of water that once stretched inland. Long before Worthing became the seaside town we know today, Broadwater was already a thriving little village with its own market and strong sense of community.

A Norman gem at the heart of the village

St Mary’s Church is one of the oldest landmarks in the area, its Norman tower has stood for over 900 years! Built with stone imported from France, it’s seen a lot over the centuries, doubling up not just as a church, but as a courthouse, meeting hall, and a place of refuge.

The dancing skeleton tree

Just near the Grove Lodge roundabout, you’ll find the Midsummer Tree, a 300-year-old elm steeped in local legend. According to folklore, skeletons rise from its roots to dance on Midsummer’s Eve at midnight. First written about in 1868, the tale still gives locals something to talk about today.

Cricket with a rich history

Broadwater Cricket Club has been playing on the Green since 1771 – making it the oldest cricket club in Worthing. Cricket has been part of local life here since the 1720s, and the club is still going strong, carrying on a proud tradition that spans centuries.

Broadwater before Worthing

It’s easy to forget, but Broadwater was once the main parish, long before Worthing grew into a town. Back then, Worthing was just a tiny fishing village. The old parish of Broadwater also included Offington, and the whole area was brought together as part of the Borough of Worthing in 1902.

Local Flavours

The Cricketers

A much-loved local pub with a warm, traditional feel. The Cricketers sits at the heart of our community. It’s the perfect spot for a well-kept pint, a glass of wine, or a hearty meal. Regular events such as bottomless bingo and live music in the garden on the first Sunday of the month, make it a lively hub for locals and visitors alike.

Muldoons

In the heart of Broadwater, Muldoons is the original coffee shop of the village. It’s known for its hearty breakfasts, tasty brunches, and friendly atmosphere. With outdoor seating, it’s the perfect place to sit back, relax, and watch the world go by.

“Run by Louis and his amazing team, it’s the longest serving coffee shop in Broadwater and has the best brownies in town – I always recommend them to our customers!” – Scott Taylor, Director

Giorgio Ristorante Italiano

Giorgio is a family-run Italian restaurant serving honest, traditional dishes cooked with love and passion. Chef Maged, originally from Italy, brings decades of experience complemented by his wife’s warm hospitality. A true hidden gem for lovers of authentic Italian cuisine.

Noorie’s Indian Restaurant

Noorie’s is a family-run Indian restaurant offering timeless recipes and bold, authentic flavours. Chef Noorie crafts every dish with care, drawing on deep culinary traditions and fresh, vibrant spices. With warm, attentive service and a welcoming atmosphere, it’s a local favourite for anyone wanting homemade Indian food.

The Broadwater Pub

A traditional, family-friendly pub in the heart of the village, The Broadwater has been welcoming locals since the 1800s. Run by the ever-involved Dianne, it’s a true community hub. Expect classic pub food, a well-stocked bar, live music, and all the big matches on screen. With a sunny beer garden, dog-friendly policy, and warm atmosphere, it’s a local favourite for all ages.

“We’re fortunate to have fantastic pubs and restaurants right on our doorstep. My go-to spots are The Broadwater when a football match is showing on the big screen, for live music it’s The Cricketers which is unbeatable in the summer thanks to its beer garden. Then it’s always a tough choice between Italian, a curry or pub-grub!” – Harry Moreland, Senior Negotiator

Local Life In Broadwater

BroadFest

A real highlight in the local calendar – this free, family-friendly music festival takes over Broadwater Green every year. Run by the lovely folks at Highdown Rotary and supported by local businesses, it’s three days of live music, tasty food, market stalls and a funfair. Each day has its own theme, so there’s always something fresh to enjoy. Enjoy the tunes, the treats and the good vibes.

Broadwater Carnival and Fire Station Open Day

This one’s a community favourite. Held every summer on Broadwater Green and at Worthing Fire Station, the Carnival and Open Day is packed with stalls, entertainment and hands-on demos from our local emergency services. In aid of brilliant causes, it raises around £10,000 each year for local charities and The Fire Fighters Charity. Over 150 stalls and a buzzing atmosphere, it’s a great day out for all ages – and yes, it’s completely free to attend.

“I was born in Broadwater and it’s been a really special place to grow up in. The combination of the many local places and epic events create a strong sense of community. It’s perfect for all generations and there’s always so much to do and enjoy, all within walking distance too.” – Daisy Chamberlain, Sales Negotiator

Broadwater Green

Right in the heart of the neighbourhood is a large public green area and where it all happens. From weekend cricket matches and dog walks to lazy picnics and community events, it’s considered one of the few remaining classic village greens in urban Worthing that really brings people together.

“To me Broadwater is not about one specific place, but the family community feel of the area and the fact that everyone is so friendly. It’s a wonderful catchment area to be a part of.” – Natalie Benger-Wells, Senior Negotiator

Local golf courses

Whether you’re a weekend putter or a serious swinger, Broadwater’s got you covered. Hill Barn Golf Club is a laid-back public course with brilliant views and something for every level. Just up the road, Worthing Golf Club brings the classic private club feel, with two great courses and plenty going on throughout the year.

“We’re lucky to have two excellent golf courses right on our doorstep – Hill Barn Golf Course and Worthing Golf Club. I’m a proud member of Worthing Golf Club and at my happiest when out on those 18 holes.” – Dave Hughes, Managing Director
